The Iris is the orchid of the flower garden; its blossoms are the most rich and varied in colour of hardy plants. The Iris plant is great for borders, containers, naturalizing, and cut flowers.

  • Iris – Blue and White Mixed Colors


    The Dutch Iris Blue and White Mix, Iris, is a very cool mixture! This new and exclusive blend of Dutch Iris was created only for Van Bourgondien. It contains many different shades of cobalt blue, pure white and an interesting mixture of the two. Iris prefer moist, well-drained soil in full sun, but will tolerate some afternoon shade. These Iris need plenty of water throughout the season to continue to look their best. The Iris has many uses. Best used around pools, ponds and water gardens, and for mass plantings. They can also be used in difficult banks and preventing erosion. Also, they make magnificent cut flowers and are resistant to deer.
  • Iris – Dutch – Mixed Colors


    The Iris 'Mixed Colors', 'Iris hollandica', a fall planted bulb, are dutch iris bulbs in mixed colors that are excellent for cutting. The colors run from light blue, purple to yellow and white. Dutch Iris thrives best in moist, well-draining soil. The Iris blooms in late spring to early summer for a 2 – 3 week period. Plant Dutch Iris bulbs in 10 to 14 day intervals to enjoy a continuous supply of cut flowers. For a more striking effect, plant the bulbs in groups of 20 or more. In cold areas the Iris should be mulched in winter to protect from frost. The Iris plant is great for borders, containers, naturalizing, and cut flowers. They are deer, rabbit and squirrel resistant.
  • The Iris blooms in late spring to early summer for a 2 – 3 week period. They are used to fill the gap between spring and summer plants. Plant Dutch Iris bulbs in 10 to 14 day intervals to enjoy a continuous supply of cut flowers. In winter they should be protected by a covering of half-decayed leaves or fresh cocos-fibre refuse

  • The Bearded Iris or German Iris, iris germanica are easy to cultivate and propagate, and have become very popular. It is a hardy, disease resistant plant, outstanding for its unusual color, design, and sturdy, vigorous growth habit.

    Iris petals are standards which are the inner petals that stand upright, and falls which are the outer petals that open downward to reveal a contrasting color on the petal’s spine. For cutting, for vases, table decoration, etc., it is exceedingly useful, as it is very free-flowering, and lasts a long time in water.

  • Iris – Dwarf – Rockgarden


    The Dwarf Rockgarden Iris, Iris, is fragrant, low growing and early blooming. They multiply rapidly and are excellent for borders or rock gardens, under shrubs and trees, in beds, borders, and containers and for indoor forcing; needs a well drained soil. Blooming very early spring, Dwarf Irises typically bloom after Snowdrops, but before Giant Dutch Crocuses. They have relatively large (iris-shaped) flowers on a short stem.
  • Iris are easy to grow in well drained soil and full sun, but will tolerate some afternoon shade. In cold areas the Iris should be mulched in winter to protect from frost. The iris thrives in almost any soil, though a sandy one suits it best, and is strikingly effective when planted in clumps. Iris need plenty of water throughout the season to continue to look their best. It soon increases if left undisturbed.
